Salon 94 Design
Design miami 2018, Images
During our Design Miami presentation we invite the audience backstage - the space where we work, study designer prototypes, experiment, and seat ourselves. We will stage this inside “warehouse” view where the floor will feature historical and new works by Thomas Barger, Dozie Kanu, Kwangho Lee, Max Lamb, Philippe Malouin, Gaetano Pesce, and Tom Sachs.
Since 1980s, Gaetano Pesce has exploited the technical qualities of resins, polyurethanes, and silicones to create signature pliable, corporeal, and organic designs. Salon 94 Design will present Pesce’s historical works, including a Lamp with 54 Arms which belongs to a series of objects with multiple movable limbs dating from 1991. This lamp, among the most iconic of Pesce’s works, has fifty-four illuminated arms, and invites the user to shape them according to their desire. The invitation to manipulate this pliable lamp demonstrates his humor, whimsy, and imagination.
A new Nylon Turntable by Philippe Malouin is made of one hundred percent nylon. A simple circular groove in the solid nylon table top and body holds the loose marbles and allows the table top to turn.
Emerging designer Dozie Kanu will bring new concrete furniture as well as his award winning Chair [iv]. This foam chair is an example of Kanu’s sleek modern aethetic, which helped him to win the prestigious Hublot Design Prize 2018. He was also awarded The Miami Design District’s 2018 holiday commission.
